NUSUK ID Card: Key to Smooth Hajj for Nigerian Pilgrims, Warns NAHCON
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is reminding all Nigerian pilgrims participating in Hajj this year about the importance of possessing and carrying their NUSUK ID cards. Recent reports indicate pilgrims facing arrest or denied access to important areas for lacking this crucial identification.
“We emphasised the importance of the NUSUK ID card before the Hajj airlift,” said NAHCON, highlighting its role in pilgrim identification and access to key areas during Hajj.
A fatwa issued by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body makes obtaining a Hajj permit, represented by the NUSUK ID card, mandatory for all pilgrims.
Here’s what Nigerian pilgrims need to know:
- Mandatory Possession: Collect your NUSUK ID card upon arrival in Makkah from Mutawwif officials (if not already done) at designated points. Contact your State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board or Tour Operator for details.
- Always Carry Your Card: NUSUK cards are essential for identification and access to areas like Hajj buses. Pilgrims with smartphones can download the NUSUK app for a digital copy. Those without smartphones can seek help from pilgrims’ board officials.
- Security Concerns: Be aware of illegal pilgrims trying to steal NUSUK cards. Guard your cards carefully and report suspicious activity to authorities.
NAHCON urges state Muslim pilgrim welfare boards and tour operators to:
- Emphasise the importance of NUSUK cards during pre-departure briefings.
- Assist pilgrims in collecting their cards if needed.
Penalties for illegal Hajj include fines, imprisonment, deportation, and a 10-year Saudi Arabia ban.
NAHCON offers assistance to pilgrims who misplace their cards. Contact your state pilgrims’ officials or NAHCON’s operational office in Makkah.
“Adhere to these guidelines to avoid inconvenience,” advises NAHCON. “We are committed to ensuring a smooth and safe Hajj experience for all Nigerian pilgrims.“
