NYSC urges corps members to prioritise entrepreneurship dev’t
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged corps members to take advantage of its skills acquisition programme for personal and professional development.
Mrs Chinwe Nwachuku, the Coordinator of the scheme in Gombe State, stated this on Friday during the inauguration of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II Orientation Course.
She said the scheme was designed to equip corps members with required entrepreneurial skills and experiences to enable them to become agent of change, and contribute to national development.
Nwachukwu advised the corps members to explore opportunities in the scheme to develop their potentials by participation in all activities to empower themselves and become self-reliant.
According to her, the orientation course aims to promote national growth and development, self- reliance, and independence.
“You will be engage in physical training, intellectual/motivational lectures, sporting and social activities, as well as Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED).
“I encourage you to participate fully and take advantage of the opportunities that will be presented to you,” she said.
The coordinator said the scheme avail the corps members opportunities to interact with people from different cultures and religions, and enjoined them to be open minded, tolerant and respectful to others.
Nwachukwu lauded the Gombe state government for its support to the scheme.
Gov. Inuwa Yahaya assured corps members of improved security and welfare.
Represented by Inuwa Ibrahim, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, the governor said that his administration adopted proactive measures to enhance security, protect lives and property.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 1,783 corps members, comprising 928 males and 855 females have been deployed to the state for the one-year mandatory national service.
