Police Arrest 6 Suspects in Yobe Crackdown on Theft, Burglary
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested six suspects for alleged theft, criminal trespass, and burglary as part of an ongoing crackdown on crime in Damaturu, the state capital.
According to a statement from DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson for the command, the arrests were made following a directive from Commissioner of Police Garba Ahmed, who initiated a stakeout in response to rising reports of shoplifting, theft, and burglary affecting both public and private properties.
The arrests came after Mal. Musa Alh Audu, a resident of Nayi-Nawa Ward, reported the theft of tricycle parts from his vicinity. Police responded quickly, leading to the apprehension of six individuals: Abubakar Ahmed, 19, Hassan Musa, 19, Shayibu Adamu, 24, Ahmed Ismail, 22, Babagana Lawan, 25, and Gambo Daiyyabu, 52.
The suspects were found in possession of multiple stolen items, including 13 tricycle tires, six windshields, four crates of Coca-Cola bottles, two bicycles, and a toolbox. All six have reportedly confessed to the crimes and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.
CP Garba Ahmed commended residents for their support and urged them to continue reporting any suspicious activity to the police to enhance community safety.
