Police arrest suspect for defiling 13-year-old girl in Yobe

The Yobe State police command has arrested Lawan Saidu, 25, for allegedly defiling a lover’s 13-year-old daughter in Yobe state.
Saidu, who lives in Tudun Wada community of Potiskum, had a recent extramarital relationship the victim’s mother.
Spokesman of the Command, Deputy Superintend of Police (DSP), Dungus Abdulkarim, yesterday (Thursday), in Damaturu, disclosed that the suspect was detained for raping a 13-year-old girl in the neighbourhood.

He said: “The raped girl reported the criminal act to her father which eventually led to the divorce of her mother.”
According to him, this led the suspect to become wild to attack and defiled her, after the girl’s father went to his shop at 8:30pm on September 20, 2023.
He said that an investigation is currently ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Damaturu, before prosecuting the suspect in the court of law.
Abdulkarim added that the raped girl has already been treated and discharged from the General Hospital, Potiskum.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmad, has urged the people to be conscious of scrupulous elements by reporting them to the nearest police station.
While ensuring stiffer sanctions against rapists, he ordered officers and men of the police to always ensure proper investigation with diligent prosecution of suspects.
“Justice should not only be done, but be seen to have been done,” said the police boss.
