Police Deploys More Personnel, Equipment to Tackle ‘One Chance’ Robberies in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified efforts to curb the menace of “one chance” robbery and car theft in Abuja through the deployment of additional personnel and equipment.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, in Abuja.
The enhanced deployment aims to strengthen patrols, conduct stop-and-search operations, and increase surveillance across the territory. According to Adeh, the initiative is focused on combating the rising cases of “one chance” robbery, where unsuspecting passengers are robbed by criminals posing as commercial drivers, as well as curbing incidents of car theft.
She stated that vehicles without registration numbers, those with only one plate, and those using defaced number plates would be impounded as part of the operation. Additionally, enforcement actions will be taken against vehicles with covered number plates and unauthorized tinted glasses.
“These measures, while potentially inconvenient, underscore our commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents in the FCT,” Adeh said. “The goal is to deter criminal activities that target motorists and passengers.”
Adeh further revealed that the operation has already led to the recovery of several stolen vehicles and the arrest of suspects involved in robbery.
Commending the public for their patience and cooperation, she urged vehicle owners to comply with the outlined regulations and encouraged residents to report suspicious activities.
