Police Nab Cybercrime Trio in Yobe, Recover ATM Cards and Luxury Vehicle

The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended three suspects linked to cybercrime and ATM fraud in Damaturu. The suspects—Sani Kasim (35), Nura Umaru (24), and Umar Suleman (22)—were arrested on December 6, 2024, for allegedly operating a criminal syndicate that targeted ATM users in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, revealed that the operation led to the recovery of 47 ATM cards, four headsets, and a Mercedes Benz vehicle. Additionally, six victims, including visually impaired persons, were reportedly defrauded of a combined sum of N181,550.
The Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, has directed detectives to intensify investigations and track down other suspects who remain at large. He also urged residents to report any suspicious activities, stating, “Yobe will not be a safe haven for criminal elements.”
Ahmed advised the public to adhere to safety measures to avoid falling prey to such schemes and reassured them of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
The arrests highlight the growing efforts of law enforcement in combating cybercrime in Yobe State.
