Soldier shot self to death over being a member of Boko Haram, ISWAP

A Lance Corporal with the Nigerian Army has shot himself to death over being a member of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terror groups in the Northeast.
Jibrin was an instructor with the Army Battalion, Geidam before absconding for two days from the duty post.
A Counter-Insurgency Expert, Zagazola Makama, yesterday (Thursday), stated in Maiduguri that Jibrin was popular among his colleagues; because of his competency in the counter-terrorism operations.

He disclosed that; “He was, however, sighted among Boko Haram terrorists that attacked Geidam last Sunday, claiming 12 lives of people.”
On how he was tracked, he said the Commanding Officer of the Battalion tracked his phone and was identified in Gashua, 102km from the Geidam duty post.
He said the Army authorities in Gashua were intimated and the soldiers spread their dragnets to arrest him.
According to him, last Tuesday, Jibrin boarded a bus to Gombe and disguised himself but was identified and arrested and handcuffed at a checkpoint in Gashua, Yobe state.
He explained that after being interrogated, he revealed many things to the Army.
Continuing, he added: “On their way to Geidam, Jibrin employed his skills as a weapon instructor, snatched a gun from one of his escorts, over-powered other soldiers and blew up himself to death.”
He noted that his revelations however led to the arrest of some of his terror brethren, including soldiers serving at Gombe and Geidam Battalions.
“The problems are with the defenders of this country,” he said; warning that the military faces lot of internal threats.
He noted that this was the end of a brilliant soldier who was an asset to the Army until he got switched.
He said the lance corporal was in the intelligence corps of the Army before becoming a weapons instructor.
