Tinubu: Past Mistakes Must Not Hinder Nigeria’s Future Progress
President Bola Tinubu emphasized the need for reforms in his Independence Day address, stating that Nigeria must not let past mistakes impede its journey toward greatness.
Speaking during the 64th Independence Anniversary broadcast, President Tinubu highlighted that his administration’s reforms are crucial to ensuring Nigeria fulfills its potential as one of the world’s leading nations, as destined by God. He emphasized that past errors should not be carried into the future.
“This Independence Day offers us a chance to reflect on our journey toward nation-building and renew our commitment to building a better country for current and future generations,” Tinubu said. “While we celebrate our progress over 64 years, we must also acknowledge missed opportunities and avoid letting past mistakes define our future.”
Taking office at a challenging period, Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s economy was struggling, and security was a significant concern. He explained that the government faced a choice between maintaining the status quo or embarking on critical reforms. “We chose to reform our political economy and defence structure,” he stated.
The President urged Nigerians to be patient and willing to make necessary sacrifices, emphasizing that the reforms are beginning to yield positive outcomes. “We are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel,” he assured.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence, Tinubu reminded the nation of its founding fathers’ vision of a democratic country that would lead Africa out of poverty and ignorance. “Over six decades later, we’ve made remarkable progress, and the world is witnessing the spirit and resilience of the Nigerian people in various fields,” he said.
President Tinubu acknowledged that while much remains to be done, the country has made strides in unity and resilience, having survived challenges that might have torn other nations apart. “We remain a strong, united, and viable sovereign nation,” he affirmed.
In conclusion, he called on Nigerians to be patient as his government implements reforms aimed at building a solid foundation for a brighter future, while extending his wishes for a happy Independence anniversary.
