Troops kill 7 Boko Haram terrorists in Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralized seven Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the axis of the Daula market in Bama Area Council of Borno state.
The insurgents were killed in an ambush along the dirt road to the market, located southeast of Bama Township.
A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, stated, yesterday, in Maiduguri that the ground troops achieved the feat on credible intelligence on the movements of terrorists to the illegal market.
“Remnants of terrorists were coming to the market to engage in some transactions,” he said, adding that the transactions were in for logistics and food items.
He said the troops were on a long-range fighting patrol when they got wind of the rampaging activities of the terrorists and laid an ambush.
According to him, the troops rained heavy fire on the terrorists, killing seven of them instantly while one of them escaped.
On hearing that the terrorists were killed, Abu Hassan, a top Boko Haram commander, mobilized the escapees and headed to Bama town to attack the troops of the 21 Armoured Brigade.
Continued; “On arrival by 6:40 pm, the terrorists began shooting sporadically, causing panic among residents of Bama and other communities along the Bama-Gwoza road.”
He noted that, fortunately, the troops, however, responded with heavy gunfire forcing the insurgents to retreat by fleeing into Sambisa Forest.
