Tshisekedi Boycotts Virtual Crisis Meeting with Rwandan Counterpart
By Lawrence Bilal Audu
Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi has announced that he will not attend a virtual crisis meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, scheduled for today, Wednesday, January 29, 2025. This decision comes on the heels of Rwanda-backed M-23 fighters entering the Congolese city of Goma, a development that has significantly escalated tensions between the two nations.
The virtual meeting, part of an East African Community summit, was intended to address the growing crisis in the region. However, President Tshisekedi’s absence is a clear indication of his dissatisfaction with Rwanda’s involvement in the conflict.
The M-23 fighters’ entry into Goma has raised concerns about regional stability and the potential for further violence. The international community is watching the situation closely, urging both sides to engage in diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully.
President Tshisekedi’s decision to boycott the meeting highlights the complexity of the conflict and the deep-seated tensions between the DRC and Rwanda. As the situation continues to unfold, one thing is clear: a lasting resolution will require concerted efforts from all parties involved.
