Ummah University Appoints Professor Kumshe Acting Vice-Chancellor

  The Governing Council of Ummah University of Nigeria, Abuja, has appointed Professor Ahmed Modu Kumshe as the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, effective October 1, 2026.

The appointment, announced in a statement issued on Thursday, is subject to applicable laws and regulatory requirements governing private universities in Nigeria.

Professor Kumshe, a Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Maiduguri, is expected to provide strategic leadership as the university advances its academic and institutional development.

According to the university, the appointment is part of efforts to establish a leadership structure anchored on professionalism, integrity, accountability and academic excellence.

As Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kumshe will serve as the university’s Chief Executive and Chief Academic Officer, overseeing its administration, academic programmes, financial management and institutional growth.

The Governing Council expressed confidence in his experience and ability to help position the university as an institution recognised for academic excellence, innovation and national impact.

Professor Kumshe has held several academic and administrative positions at the University of Maiduguri, including Head of the Department of Accounting, Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences and Deputy Director of the Centre for Distance Learning.

He also served as Registrar and Chief Executive of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), as well as a member of its Governing Council.

Before his appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kumshe chaired the Planning and Implementation Committee of Ummah University, where he was involved in the processes that led to the establishment and licensing of the institution.

The university’s Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Dr Mohammed Kyari Dikwa, congratulated Professor Kumshe and expressed optimism about his leadership as the institution enters a new phase of development.
