WASA 2023: Your sacrifices have contributed to Gombe’s peace, development says Gov. Yahaya
Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has lauded the sacrifices of the Nigerian army to the peace and development of Gombe State.
Yahaya, who is Chairman Northern States Governors’ Forum gave the commendation during the 2023 West African Social Activities organised by 301 artillery general support Gombe State.
The governor who was represented by Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Lt. Col Abdullahi Bello (retired) said that the sacrifices of the army were not restricted to Gombe State alone but across the country.

He stated that there was need to continue to collaborate with the army towards strengthening peace and efforts at addressing security challenges in the state and country.
“May this (2023WASA) solidify our unity.
“To our gallant soldiers, I extend our deepest gratitude to your services and commitment to safeguarding our shared values.
“Your sacrifices resonate beyond the national borders which contributes to the prosperity of Gombe State.
“Let’s continue to build bridges and cultivate friendship and stand united in the face of challenges to forge peace and stability for our people,” Yahaya said.
While lauding the Nigerian Army for organising the event, the governor said that the 2023 WASA would encourage unity as various ethnic groups were displayed during the cultural fiesta.
Speaking further, the governor called for renewed collaboration with the military in combating the challenge of insecurity in the North, Nigeria as a whole while stating that maintaining peace remained a shared responsibility.
“The collaboration between the military and the civil public can’t be overstated.
“The challenges before us require general efforts and the Nigerian Army stands at the forefront as they display courage and resilience.”
On his part, Commander 301 Artillery general support, Colonel Suleman Ahmed, noted that the activities afforded officers opportunity to identify with their backgrounds.
He said, “WASA ensures officers don’t forget their roots. We are Commissioned from diverse ethnic groups. You can see that from the dance groups we brought from the six geopolitical zones of the country.”
While commending the existing collaboration between the army and the public, the Commander said, “if they see anything they should say something. They should tell us and we will do our best.”
Our correspondent reports that the 2023 WASA had cultural display from various ethnic groups as Warrant Officer Aliyu Jafar, who emerged best soldier and Best female soldier Officer Sgt. Israel Juliana, were both awarded.
