World Cup: Argentina Goalkeeper Declares ‘Minute Of Silence’ For Mbappe
Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, on Sunday, declared a minute of silence to mock the Golden Boot winner at the World Cup, Kylian Mbappe.
Martinez had slammed Mbappe a day earlier over a comment in May dismissing South American football and boasting that the European nation would win the World Cup.
In May, Mbappe had spoken to TNTSPORTSBR, saying, “The advantage that we European [favourites] have is that we always play each other, and we have high-level matches. Argentina and Brazil don’t have that level of competition in South America; the football is not as developed as in Europe, that is why most recent World Cup winners have been Europeans.”

However, during their dressing room celebration on Sunday, the South Americans’ response to Mbappe was clear.
In a trending video, the Argentina players danced around the dressing room after the triumph. They were all heard singing “a minute’s silence for” in tandem before leaving a gap for goalkeeper Martinez to shout: “For Mbappe, who is dead!”
Argentina defeated France on penalties to win the World Cup.
Martinez won the Golden Globe Award at the Mundial.
