Yobe completes 133 electrification projects in communities, housing estates

The Yobe State Government has completed 133 Rural Electrification Board (REB) projects at over three dozen housing estates and communities.
The completion of projects was to enable REB to hook up electricity to the national grid in the three senatorial districts; including Damaturu, the state capital.
Unveiling the completed projects, at a Ministerial press briefing, in Damaturu, at the weekend (Saturday), the General Manager of the board, Umara Mustapha Goniri, disclosed that 27 other electrification projects are to be completed this year for to enhance power supply for State’s economic development and growth.

“These are the modest achievements made in the power sector to mark three-year administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni in the state,” he said, assuring that the 27 other rural electrification projects are to be completed by end of this year.
In sustaining the projects, he said that additional transformer sub-stations and adjustment of township distribution network were installed in each of the housing estates in the 17 local councils.
According to him, the estates are sited in Damaturu, Dikumari, Potiskum, Gashua, Dazigau NYSC camp and Buni-Yadi.
He added that there were re-electrifications and upgrade at Government Science and Technical Colleges, at Jajimaji, Nguru and Geidam, a border community with Niger.
He further disclosed that the board in the last three years, procured two standby generators to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YUTH) and the State’s ICT and data centre.
Besides, he added that the burnt out transformer substation was also replaced with accessories at the Ministry of Environment, Rural Water Supply Agency (RUWASA) and the Damaturu stadium complex along Maiduguri road.
