Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has lauded the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and insurgency in the Northeast. He described the ongoing military operations as pivotal in restoring peace and stability across the state, including its border regions with neighboring countries.
Governor Zulum made these remarks on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Olufeme Oluyede, and a delegation of senior military officers to the Government House in Maiduguri.
Commending the Army’s sacrifices in the 15-year battle against Boko Haram insurgents, Zulum pledged his continued support for their counter-terrorism campaigns. He also encouraged the military to intensify its operations to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their communities.
In his response, Lt-Gen. Oluyede expressed gratitude for the governor’s unwavering backing, noting its critical role in advancing security efforts. “Sustained support from the state government will expedite overcoming security challenges and safeguarding lives and property,” he stated.
The Army Chief assured Governor Zulum and the people of Borno of the military’s steadfast dedication to creating a secure environment, marking another step toward ending years of insurgency and rebuilding the state.
This collaborative approach underscores the importance of synergy between the military and the state government in restoring lasting peace to the region.
