Zulum Approves N730 Million Scholarship for Borno Students
Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved a scholarship fund of N730 million for indigenous students enrolled in various institutions across Nigeria.
The announcement was made on Monday during a cheque presentation ceremony at the Quality Assurance office of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation. The Commissioner, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, represented the governor and officially handed over the cheque to the Borno State Scholarship Board.
According to Engr. Wakilbe, the scholarship will benefit 26,888 undergraduate students, with payments set to commence immediately. He revealed that the Zulum administration has invested over N8 billion in scholarships this year alone, supporting students both locally and abroad.
The commissioner provided a detailed breakdown of the allocations, emphasizing the importance of hard work among students to justify the government’s investment. He also advised beneficiaries to ensure their bank details are accurate to avoid failed transactions, warning that unclaimed funds may be redirected.
Engr. Wakilbe encouraged students to explore additional educational opportunities, including those offered through the NELFUND initiative, and called on student leaders to utilize available resources effectively.
Expressing gratitude, Abdullahi Ahmadu Umara, National President of the National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS), commended Governor Zulum for his commitment to advancing education in the state.
One of the beneficiaries, Abba Ali Abba Gana, proposed bestowing honorary titles on Governor Zulum as the “Student-Friendly Governor” and the commissioner as the “Architect of Modern Education” in recognition of their efforts to improve education in Borno State.
