Zulum to Unveil 2026 Budget Blueprint Before Borno Assembly
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, is set to present the 2026 budget proposals to the Borno State House of Assembly today (Monday), in line with the powers conferred on him by the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, as amended.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, disclosed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Sunday, describing the exercise as a key constitutional responsibility and a defining moment for the state’s development agenda.
According to Tar, the budget presentation will provide Governor Zulum with the opportunity to outline the financial and economic direction of his administration for the 2026 fiscal year, adding that the governor is expected to make far-reaching policy pronouncements with direct implications for the welfare of citizens.
“The presentation will set in motion the monetary and fiscal projections of the Zulum administration for 2026. The commissioner also anticipates the governor unveiling policies that will profoundly influence the lives of Borno State’s citizens.
He added that the event is expected to attract a wide range of stakeholders, including senior government officials, party leaders, and supporters; members of the organised private sector; civil society organisations; and members of the public, who are encouraged to be present to witness the constitutional exercise.
Tar urged citizens to turn out in large numbers to support the governor during the presentation, stressing its importance to the state’s governance and development process.
Recall that the 2025 budget, signed into law by Governor Zulum in January, stood at ₦584.8 billion, with the social sector receiving the largest allocation of over ₦400 billion. Education and healthcare were given top priority, with major investments including the construction and equipping of 104 mega secondary schools, alongside teachers’ quarters in the Mafa and Maiduguri metropolis.
During the presentation of the 2025 budget to the 28-member House of Assembly, Governor Zulum had emphasised that education and health remain critical drivers of economic growth and sustainable development in the state.
He also cautioned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly comply with their approved budgetary provisions, warning that non-adherence could result in the withholding of funds meant for projects and programmes across the state.
