The Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Borno State Chapter, Chief Levi Nyia, has commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his commitment to national unity and inclusiveness, following the state government’s provision of free Christmas transportation for non-indigenes.
Chief Nyia said the gesture has gone a long way in strengthening the unification of Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups, noting that the initiative reflects Governor Zulum’s people-centred leadership and concern for all residents of Borno State, regardless of ethnic or religious background.
He explained that the free transport scheme provided much-needed relief to many non-indigenes who would have otherwise been unable to travel home due to the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
According to him, the initiative enabled beneficiaries to reunite with their families and celebrate the Christmas season with loved ones in a moment of joy and togetherness.
“The Igbo community in Borno State sincerely appreciates the Governor for this kind gesture. We thank him for his inclusive leadership and wish him success as he continues to steer the affairs of the state and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people,” Chief Nyia said.
The Annual Free Transportation Programme (AFTP) is one of the key social intervention initiatives of the Borno State Government. The programme is designed to provide yearly mobility support and economic relief to thousands of Nigerians across different parts of the country, especially during festive periods.
Observers say the initiative has continued to earn the Zulum administration praise for promoting unity, compassion, and peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic and religious communities living in Borno State.
