Buni presents N163.2 billion budget to Assembly for 2023

The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has presented the N163.2 billion budget to the State House of Assembly for 2023 fiscal year.
According to him, the budget will dwell on the completion of ongoing projects, including post-insurgency recovery and socioeconomic development programmes across the state
Presenting the appropriation bill, yesterday (Thursday), in Damaturu to the Assembly, the Governor disclosed that next year’s budget increased by 0.5% of the 2022 budgetary appropriation of N164.1 billion.
He said the tagged budget of; “Continuity, Consolidation and Economic Transformation,” has earmarked N87.8 billion or 57 percent for recurrent expenditures and N75.4 billion or 43 percent for capital projects.
On financing the budget, he said: “Our sources for financing the budget are contained in the Appropriation and Finance Bills.”

He noted that the economic sector took the lion’s share of N84.32 billion comprising the Ministries of Works, Transport and Energy, Agriculture, Budget and Economic planning, Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment; and nine other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Besides the economic sector, the social sector of the budget was earmarked N53.6 billion, while administration had N22 billion appropriation for consideration and passage into law.
In the 2023 general elections, he reminded the legislators and the people to be guided by the rules guiding the electioneering campaigns and the elections proper.
“We should engage in issue-based campaigns and denounce hate and inciting speeches,” he warned, adding that violence should not be condoned to ensure free, fair and credible elections.
