FG, NEDC Launch Mobile Labs to Boost North-East Education
The Federal Government, in collaboration with the North East Development Commission (NEDC), has deployed 30 mobile laboratories and virtual reality headsets to enhance secondary education across the North-East region under the Accelerated Senior Secondary Education Programme (ASSEP).
Launched in May 2024 by Vice President Kashim Shettima, ASSEP focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA) to equip students with practical skills for the modern workforce.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, Mrs. Sa’adatu Shehu, Chairperson of the ASSEP Project Implementation Committee, emphasized the program’s holistic approach to education.
“It goes beyond schooling; it’s about total education—developing human capital, intellectual growth, and emotional well-being,” she said.
The initiative targets senior secondary school students in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states, aiming to bridge gaps in education and foster excellence in STEMA subjects.
Stakeholders, including Mrs. Aisha Umar, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Adamawa, lauded the program as a critical step in addressing educational challenges in the region. Teachers, like Mrs. Godiya Mamza of General Murtala Mohammed College, noted the positive impact of the initiative on teaching and learning outcomes.
By prioritizing education through ASSEP, the Federal Government, in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reaffirms its commitment to transforming education and empowering the youth in the North-East region.
