NYSC permanent orientation camp ready soon, Gombe government assures corps members
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has assured corps members posted to the state that the permanent orientation camp being built by the state government will be ready for use soon.
Yahaya gave the assurance in Amada, Akko Local Government Area of the state, on Tuesday while declaring open the orientation course for the 2024 Batch A Stream II corps members.
Represented by Mr. Inuwa Ibrahim, the state commissioner for youth and sports development, Yahaya stated that the state government was aware of the challenges and resultant effects associated with the use of a temporary location for the orientation course.
He said that adequate modalities had been put in place to ensure that the facility, when completed, served the purpose for which it was built.
“And be assured that, in no distant future, the NYSC permanent orientation camp at Boltungo will be completed in full for maximum utilisation,” he said.
The governor said that his administration was youth-friendly and, hence, would continue to provide an environment conducive for them to harness their potential while serving in the state.
“Let me place on record that Gombe State is peaceful, so be rest assured of your security, welfare, and general well-being.
“Security is a top priority of the government, as indicated in the robust synergy between the state and security agencies and in the security apparatus deployed to the orientation camp.
“Gombe people are peaceful and receptive in nature; hence, they will continually ensure that, as youths, you have an enabling environment to maximise potential,” he said.
Yahaya, while wishing the corps members a hitch-free exercise, urged them to shun all forms of negative vices and embrace peace, unity, and the socioeconomic development of the state and country.
On her part, Mrs. Chinwe Nwachuku, the newly posted NYSC state coordinator, Gombe State, said a total of 1,381 corps members, comprising 723 males and 658 females, were registered for the orientation course.
Nwachuku commended the state government’s effort towards providing a permanent orientation camp for the scheme in the state after the previous one was taken for national rehabilitation purposes.
She said that the speedy completion and permission to host the next camp in the new permanent camp would help solve the problem of water supply being currently experienced at the temporary camp.
Nwachuku commended the efforts of all security and other stakeholders in ensuring the success of previous orientation exercises in the state.
