Troops repel ISWAP attack, policeman killed in Borno community

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in the Northeast, have repelled the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) attack on Magumeri community, Borno State.

While repelling the terrorists on Wednesday, a policeman was killed after attacking the Magumeri police station, 40 kilometres north-west of Maiduguri, the state capital.

A counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday (Friday), in Maiduguri that that the terrorists sneaked into the police station at 2:a.m in a Hilux truck and motorcycles.

He said that the insurgents parked their vehicles and walked to avoid any sound in alerting the troops of the Magumeri police station attack.

Besides, Makama added: “The terrorists attacked the police station in two different directions and killed a police sergeant on duty.

Confirming the incident, yesterday, the Police Commissioner, Abdu Umar disclosed that the policemen swiftly engaged the terrorists in a gun battle.

He said that the 30-miniute fierce gun battle forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray with gunshot wounds.

According to him: “They snatched a police patrol vehicle of the Crack Operatives towards the Sasawa Forest in Yobe state.

Continued: “Our men were able to deflate the tyres of the vehicle before they took it away,” noting that the reinforcement team is currently chasing the fleeing terrorists.
