WOWICAN, FAWOYDI train Bauchi women on leadership skills
The Women Wing of the Christians Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) in partnership with Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative (FAWOYDI) have trained leaders of women groups in Bogoro local government area of Bauchi state on leadership skills.
The training, which took place over the weekend, was supported by ActionAid and meant to promote women’s active participation in all developmental activities in society.
According to the team leader of WOWICAN, Bauchi state chapter, Gladys Mbami, plans are underway to expand the project to other communities in the state to achieve the desired results.
She said the project was conceived by ActionAid in view of the low rate of women in active politics and leadership.
She added that the one-day training drew over 40 women leaders from Mwari and Gwaranga communities in Bogoro local government, urging the participants to pass the message to other women.
Also speaking, a facilitator at the training, Salami Kolawole, said the training was aimed at equipping women with necessary leadership skills and their rights to education, politics and other aspects of human endeavour.
In their comments, the participants who lamented harmful norms that impede women’s active participation in governance promised to step down the training to others.
It was gathered that WOWICAN also paid an advocacy visit to the village head of Bogoro, Mr. Nuhu Tafida, who pledged to support the project.
