WFP, Yobe train staff on emergency response to disasters in Northeast

The World Food Programme (WTF) of the United Nations and Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) have trained their staff on emergency preparedness for hunger in the Northeast.
According to the UN Food Agency, the region, comprising six states, was affected by the over a decade-long conflict.
Declaring the training sessions open yesterday (Friday), in Damaturu, SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Goje, disclosed: “Today’s training of our staff was to overcome the challenges that WFP and SEMA face in disaster response and project implementation in conflict-affected regions.”
Additionally, he said that the training could increase the emergency response capacity of staff, including raising awareness of the disaster victims.
Goje continued: “Our two-day training has engaged trainees from the stakeholders to focus on enhancing a rapid and efficient emergency response to disasters and hunger.”.
As part of training, staff of the two humanitarian agencies visited the SEMA office and warehouse that stocked various relief materials for distribution.
While responding, the representative of WPF said: “We’re committed to supporting the state agency in addressing food security and crisis response that aligned with our global mission.”.
