The National Population Commission on Monday commenced training of staff from the North East, ahead of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.
Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 134 staff from the region gathered in Gombe for the training which commenced on Monday.
Alhaji Abubakar Danburam, NPC’s Federal Commission for Gombe State stated this in an interview with newsmen on the sideline of the training.
Danburam said the staff were drawn from all the Local Government Areas in the six states from the North East.
He said that the commission would leverage technology for the 2023 census to ensure credibility and acceptability of results.
According to him, since the commission was going digital, there was a need to train staff on modern technology that will be used to ensure a hitch-free exercise in the zone and country.
He said that the commission was working to “deliver credible and reliable census results that are acceptable to Nigerians.
“And to ensure that the quality of data to be generated meets international best standards for planning and developmental purposes.”
“It is imperative that the Commission’s staff should be adequately trained for the census as such the qualities of staff that will perform the activities are very important.
“Therefore, having a good knowledge of the content of the census document, the technique and the organisation of the census are key to its success,” he said.
