By Matthew Eloyi
Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, the Publisher of NEPTUNE Prime and Chairman, Northeast Publishers Forum, Dr. Hassan Gimba has called for the Northeast region to be allowed to produce the next president of Nigeria, adding that the region, with its abundant natural resources, has the potential to feed the nation.
Gimba made the call in his lecture as the Guest Speaker on the occasion of the Northeast Star 2021 awards presentation with the theme ‘Celebrating Excellence, Promoting Peace and Harmony’ at the Conference Hall, American University of Nigeria (AUN) Yola, Adamawa State on Thursday.

According to him, the Northeast has produced great technocrats, politicians and statesmen that have contributed to making Nigeria a great nation.
In his words, “Even though the North-west and even the North-central are bigger than the Northeast, the zone has always acted as a big brother for peace to reign.
“Politically, we have always given in to the two other zones. This is not because of incapacity, we have capable people who could steer the ship of state successfully and to the satisfaction of all. We have always given in to maintain our bonds and ties.”
He urged the Northwest and the North-central to reciprocate the kind gestures by allowing the Northeast to produce the next president in the 2023 election. He also urged the Northeast to henceforth, mobilize and sensitize people on the fact that it is its turn to produce the next president of Nigeria.

The media expert, however, lamented that the Northeast had lagged behind in education, health and other infrastructures due to the insecurity fuelled by boko haram insurgency which has ravaged the zone.
He, therefore, called on the government and security operatives to intensify efforts in fighting insecurity in the region.
