Buni hooks up 99 towns, others to national grid supply electricity
Unveiling the completion of REB projects on Tuesday in Damaturu, REB’s General Manager, Engr. Umara Mustapha, disclosed: “All the 99 electrification projects were awarded to local contractors and completed in the various towns and communities,” adding that they include five housing estates in Damaturu.

He stated that housing estates and new settlements in the state, were also hooked up to the national grid in supplying electricity.
According to him, regular supply of electricity, ensures economic growth and development in both urban and rural centres of the state.
Besides the electrification, he said: “Governor Mai Mala Buni has also awarded contracts to complete the rehabilitation of 56 units of 11KV and 33KV lines across the state.
He lamented that some of the local council headquarters lacked electricity since they were created to function.
He noted that Bara, the Council headquarters of Gulani and 164 kilometres west of Damaturu, had no electricity since August 1991.

He further said the governor has also procured 30 transformer substations in addition to the provision of 20 heavy duty generating plants to the Yobe State Teaching Hospital, Specialists’ Hospitals among other important places in the state.
“His Excellecny has also sustained the supply of constant electricity supply to all the public hospitals through the provision of heavy duty generators and supply of diesels in case of power outage.”
The GM said the governor’s electrification projects equally torched government secondary and tertiary institutions as well as the reactivatated moribund industries in the state.
