Currency Swap: Why we are monitoring banks, agents – CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said its teams had been deployed to several communities across Gombe State and even the entire country to ensure the success of its policy by constantly monitoring commercial banks and agents.
Mr Philip Yila Yusuf, the leader of the delegation who is also the Director Development Finance Department from CBN Directorate Headquarters while addressing newsmen in Gombe said his team was monitoring the whole process to ensure compliance by all stakeholders.
Yusuf said his team was ensuring compliance to all directives by the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele while also sensitising residents on the need to deposit old notes before January 31, open account for those without as well as embrace online banking.
Yusuf who was represented by a deputy director, Ahmad Barau said though banks had been given new notes from the CBN, “we had to be there for them to load their ATM machines.

“They felt reluctant to load, could it be they are keeping the new notes for their prime customers ?or not it’s quite true the evidence of sabotage by the banks are obvious.”
He, however warned that any bank caught sabotaging the process and proven beyond reasonable doubt to be violating laid down procedures would be penalised immediately.
On complaints of availability of shortage of the newly redesigned N200 notes, Yusuf said “by tomorrow with the consignment we are expecting we hope to get some 200 notes.”
