Ex-Speaker Dogara to appeal against judgment to vacate seat

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, the member representing Bogoro, Tafawa Balewa and Dass Federal constituency, Bauchi state, appealed against a judgment that declared his seat vacant in the House of Representatives Abuja.
Our correspondent reports that Dogara won the election to represent his constituency under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party, later defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC ) prompting the PDP to file suit against the former Speaker Dogara.
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on 22nd April 2022 declared the seat of Hon Yakubu Dogara as a member of the House of Representatives vacant.

Reacting to the judgment, Counsel to Hon Dogara, J.J. Usman (SAN) stated that he has been instructed by his Client Dogara to appeal against the judgment with immediate effect.
According to the Senior Advocate, ‘The judgment has just been delivered and we have briefed our client right from the Court and he has expressed dissatisfaction against the judgment.
“He instructed that we file an appeal immediately which we shall do on Monday.
“The decision of the Court that there is evidence of defection to APC is not substantiated by any shred of evidence in the Court’s record.
“We are proceeding to the Court of Appeal immediately”. The council said.
