A non-governmental organisation, Gombe State Network of Civil Society (GONET), said there was an urgent need for improvement in subsequent local government elections in Gombe State.
Ambassador Ibrahim Yusuf, Chairman of GONET, who stated this in a press statement issued to journalists, said the call was imperative following their review of the LG elections held in the state on Saturday.

Yusuf said GONET had diligently observed the just-concluded local government elections across the 11 LGAs of Gombe State which revealed that the election was marred by voter apathy and logistical challenges, with some polling units experiencing delayed arrival of election materials.
“It is evident that there is an urgent need for improvement in subsequent local government elections.
“ GONET strongly urges the government to change the narrative surrounding LGA elections by taking necessary steps to ensure inclusivity and transparency.
“It is imperative to carry all citizens along in the electoral process to avoid the anomalies witnessed during this recent election,” he said.
While extending the organisation’s congratulations to the winners of the election, GONET chairman urged the newly elected chairmen to approach their responsibilities with utmost seriousness.
“As the tier of government closest to the people at the grassroots level, it is crucial for them to address the current hardships experienced by citizens.
“This includes providing basic necessities such as education, healthcare, water, electricity, roads, and subsidised agricultural inputs,” he said.
Yusuf said GONET remained committed to promoting democratic principles, accountable governance, and holistic development within Gombe State.
He called on all stakeholders to work together towards achieving a more transparent and inclusive electoral process that truly reflects the will of the people.
