ISWAP abducts Borno State Librarian, banker, NYSC, others
Abubakar Ahmed Askira, the Director of the Borno State Library Board, and six others, including Askira’s Sarkin Filani, Bello Ndottiwa have been seized by ISWAP terrorist alias Soldiers of Khilafa.
On his journey to Askira, in Buratai town, Askira was kidnapped. The Director was seen confirming his whereabouts in video footage presented to this media. He spoke in Hausa in the footage. ” I was kidnapped on the 6th of November, 2021,” said the Librarian.
Terrorist attacks have become prevalent on the Damaturu-Biu Road recently.
Adamu Saleh, a security expert who spoke with this publication about the situation, “As a security consultant with extensive experience in this area, I believe it is past time for the military to prioritize the protection of our highways. This kidnapping is intolerable, and it is the latest in a long line of abductions. Let’s not forget that the terrorists’ purpose is to raise money for their activities by demanding ransom for these kidnappings. I’ll tell the families not to pay any ransom, and I’ll warn people to stay away from that road until the military intervenes.”
Apart from the State Librarian, an NYSC member, Usman Musa Abubakar, a
member of the Road Safety Corps, Yusuf Nauru, and a banker, Mohammed
Askira were also abducted. Also kidnapped is Zakariya Azir Kime, a staff of UNICEF, and a contract staff of the NDA known as Imrana Mohammed Askira.
The hostages were kidnapped on different occasions. Some were kidnapped on the 11th and others on the 2nd of November. The NYSC member was however kidnapped between Ngamdu and Benisheikh in October on his way to Potiskum. Imrana Askira and was also kidnapped on the 6th of November,2021.
