NAF Airstrikes Destroy Illegal Oil Refining Sites in Rivers State

In a decisive move to combat crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in Rivers State, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe launched air strikes on illegal oil refining sites at Krakrama and Temakiri in Degema Local Government Area on 1 March 2024. The sites, located just 50 km southwest of Port Harcourt, were targeted as part of ongoing efforts to curtail illegal activities in the region.
During the operation, the Air Component identified active illegal oil refining sites at both Krakrama and Temakiri, where Cotonou Boats were spotted nearby, indicating a potential plan to unlawfully siphon crude oil. In response, the Nigerian Air Force swiftly engaged the illegal sites and boats, causing them to be engulfed in flames and completely destroyed. Additionally, reconnaissance missions were conducted in Abisse and Omoma, revealing only abandoned illegal refining sites in those areas.

The Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, emphasized the commitment of the NAF and other security agencies to eradicating the activities of oil thieves in the Niger Delta region. The operation underscores the determination to achieve lasting success in the fight against oil theft and related criminal activities.
The destruction of illegal oil refining sites at Krakrama and Temakiri marks a significant step in the ongoing battle to secure the oil-rich region and protect vital national resources from criminal exploitation. The Nigerian Air Force’s continued efforts are part of a broader strategy to maintain peace and security in the Niger Delta, ensuring the sustainable development of the region.
