He noted that the Mascot will inspire Daletians whenever they come across it, especially looking at what it stands for. He applauded the Cadet Brigade Commander, Brigadier General OI Odigie, who gave approval to the Commanding Officer of Dalet Battalion, Wing Commander MO Mazeli, to execute the project.
Dalet Battalion which came into existence in 1972, eight years after the establishment of the Academy, was named after a Nigerian Army contingent which played a strategic role during the World War II.
The Battalion was named in commemoration of the hard work and commitment of the Dalet contingent during the war.
The Black Panther was carefully selected to stand as a symbol that will represent Dalet Battalion due to its unique characteristics.
The Panther which is known to possess much energy as well as capable of handling challenges around it, tends to act quickly without too much shock. It is hoped that like the Black Panther, cadets of Dalet Battalion will focus on intuitive reasoning, organizing abilities and coherence in strategy and drive, without loosing sight of core values and goals while carrying out responsibilities.
