Pandemonium in Otukpo as youth, Idoma volunteer guards arrest kidnap suspect
Otukpo, the traditional headquarters and commercial hub of the Idoma people was Friday afternoon thrown into pandemonium as youths and village guards (vigilantes) arrest three kidnap suspects.
According to the reports, about nine persons were kidnapped around Otukpo-Oglewu road in Otukpo local government area of Benue State on Monday, October 9, 2023.

The youths of Oglewu and a few members of the Idoma Volunteers Guards combed the bushes around the area and caught a suspected herdsman while his partners in the crime unconditionally released those captives and escaped through the thick forest of Oglewu.
From my source, the youths wanted to launch “jungle justice” on the lone suspect before men of the Nigerian Police Force intervened using non-lethal chemical compound and other mild methods to disperse the crowd before taking the suspect to the Otukpo Divional Police Headquarters.
However, latest reports have it that a large number of youths have gathered at the Oglewu road and Otukpo Police Headquarters demanding that the apprehended suspect be released for them for “proper handling.”
As at the time of filing this report, it is not clear if all the kidnapped victims have been released as the Divisional Police Officer of Otukpo could not be reached for further clarification.
