Police recover 47 rustled sheep, 7 others in Yobe

The Yobe Police Command, has recovered 54 domestic animals from an arrested suspect in Jammel community of Jakusko Local Council of the state.
According to the command, the suspect, Ibrahim Umaru, 38, was nabbed on December 5, 2024, while in possession of the stolen animals during a police patrol at Babangida in Tarmuwa local council area.
Confirming the development, on Tuesday in Damaturu, the Spokesman of Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim revealed that the recovered animals, including a donkey were rustled in the Nigeria-Chad border areas of Northeast region.
Stacked with the recovered domestic animals at the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters along Gashua road, Abdulkarim appealed to public members to assist the police in identifying the owners of the recovered animals.
He said the animals comprising 47 sheep, four rams, two goats and a donkey are in the custody of the police for safety. Emmanuel Ado Police Commissioner, has also encouraged the public to report missing items or belongings to the nearest police station.
He added that to claim any of the 54 recovered animals, there must be a credible evidence of ownership, including the country from which the animals were stolen.
