Police Rescue 14 Passengers from Bandits in Katsina Attack
Police operatives in Katsina State have rescued 14 passengers from an attempted kidnapping by armed bandits in Dan’arau village, Magama-Jibia, Jibia Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when bandits ambushed two commercial vehicles traveling along the Magama-Jibia road.
“On Nov. 24, 2024, at about 7:55 p.m., suspected armed bandits attacked two commercial vehicles in Dan’arau village, firing sporadically in an attempt to abduct the occupants,” Aliyu stated.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a swift response team to the scene. “The operatives engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight, successfully thwarting the kidnapping attempt and rescuing all 14 passengers,” he added.
However, two of the rescued passengers sustained gunshot injuries. One victim tragically died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, praised the officers for their courage and professionalism. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing bandits and called on the public to provide timely information on criminal activities to assist security operations.
