World Book Day: Dr Mohammed Yahaya Harps on the Importance of Reading

An erudite scholar and lecturer, Dr Mohammed Yahaya has harped on the importance of reading.
In a virtual meeting held Saturday 23rd April 2022 with students, to mark this year’s World Book Day organized by Shallara Secondary School, Maiduguri, Dr Yahaya stressed the importance of reading.
Dr Yahaya who during the meeting made a presentation on the importance of composition writing, charged students to see World Book Day as an auspicious moment to re-evaluate their reading culture.
He expressed sadness that most students instead of reading constantly to improve their writing skills and other areas of their academics are hooked on the internet where they take delight in watching videos with obscene scenes.
He used the medium to urge parents to monitor what their wards watch or do with their phones at home. Furthering, the renowned scholar told the students that reading is the major magic wand they need to succeed in life.

Continuing, he enjoined the students to always focus on reading rather than engage in frivolities, adding that reading is what moves the world.
“Reading is the key to academic success. If you want to be great, then read. If you want to be a good leader, then read,” he added.
On her part, one of the anchors of the meeting and a staffer of the school, Mrs Mary Dona, expressed gratitude to the guest speakers, Dr Mohammed Yahaya and Mr Emmanuel Akintoye for squeezing in time to be part of the meeting.
She urged the students to leverage the presentations by the erudite scholars, to improve their reading and reminded them that readers are leaders.
In his remark, Mr Wasiu Iyiola, who is also one of the anchors and a staffer of the school, said that reading makes one travel around the world without moving around.
He thanked the students for their participation and urged them to hold tenaciously the things they have learned from the meeting.
“Those who place a premium on reading are usually the best in every area of human endeavour,” he added. Endeavour.
