Yobe earmarks N103 million for feeding, clerics’ allowances at Ramadan
By Njadvara MUSA, Damaturu
The Yobe State government has earmarked N103 million to feed the vulnerable persons and clerics’ allowances during the fasting period of Ramadan.
The N73 million feeding programme comprises the cooking of meals for distribution to over 150 Tsangaya schools and orphanage homes
Unveiling the 67 feeding centres, over the weekend (Friday), in Damaturu, the Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Alhaji Mala Musti, disclosed: “The distribution of cooked meals to the needy at Ramadan is a tradition since 1999.”
He noted that most of the vulnerable persons including the Almajiris in Tsangaya schools could not afford a meal, as they are orphaned during the 13-year Boko Haram insurgency.

According to him, the Ministry had already taken deliveries of 1, 050 bags of rice to the schools and orphanage homes.
“More bags of rice and other food items are to be distributed for the implementation of the 2023 feeding programme across the state,” he said.
On the other food items to be distributed, he said: “Out of the approved feeding budget, rams and condiments will be procured for the feeding centres in the three senatorial districts.
“Our distribution officers are to go round the 17 local councils to inspect the feeding centres,” warning that people should not go and do whatever they like in orphanage homes and schools.
He, therefore, called on wealthy individuals to key into the feeding programme to ensure a hitch-free Ramadan.
“There is an enormous reward in feeding the poor, particularly during Ramadan fasting period,” he said.
He added that the Governor also released N30 million allowances to the Islamic clerics to facilitate their religious activities during the fasting period.
