Zulum pays N700 million leave grants, pensions of Borno council workers

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has offset N700 million backlogs of leave grants and pension of retired council workers in the state.
Unveiling the payments, yesterday (Tuesday), in Maiduguri, the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele, disclosed that; “Our Governor has approved the immediate payments of N700 million for the 2022 leave grants of workers in the 27 Local Government Areas in the state.”
Besides, he added that approvals have also been granted for the payments of outstanding gratuities of retired council workers.

He, therefore, directed all the council chairmen to monitor and supervise the payments of gratuities of the retired council workers across the state.
“The 27 Council chairmen are also to ensure a hitch-free payments exercise,” he said, warning that anyone found diverting the gratuities, will be prosecuted in the court of laws.
“The released gratuity payments should not be used for any other commitments of any council in the state,” he said.
He reiterated that the released N700 million are for the payments of outstanding leave grants and gratuities of council workers.
Mele, therefore, solicited for the support and cooperation of the councils and state government in moving the state forward.
