APC North-East closes ranks in Gombe, elects zonal leaders by consensus

By Jamila Muhammad, Gombe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday staged a show of unity in Gombe as party leaders from across the Northeast geopolitical zone elected a new set of zonal officers through a consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The congress, hosted in Gombe State, brought together governors, federal lawmakers, former officeholders and senior party stakeholders, who used the occasion to project cohesion and reaffirm the zone’s central place in the ruling party’s political calculations.

At the end of the exercise, delegates endorsed a consensus list of officials expected to pilot the affairs of the party in the northeast for the next four years, in a move widely seen as a demonstration of internal stability in one of the APC’s strongest political bases.

In his address, Yobe State Governor and APC North-East Zonal Coordinator Mai Mala Buni said the region remains a critical pillar of the party. He noted that the North-east has continued to prove its electoral value, given the number of governors and influential political figures it has produced over the years.

Mr. Buni stated, “The North East zone is undeniably a significant stakeholder in the All Progressives Congress’s life,” and emphasised that the region would consistently safeguard the party’s interests. He also pointed to recent defections into the APC as evidence of growing confidence in the ruling party, urging members to translate that momentum into electoral victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates in 2027.

He stated that the adoption of consensus candidates demonstrates political maturity among stakeholders, and urged members to unite and mobilise support throughout the zone.

The chairman of the congress committee, Simon Ngwan, said the zone had agreed to adopt consensus as the mode of selecting its officers, a position that was ratified through motions moved and seconded by senior party leaders. Former Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan and the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Usman Bello Kumo, were among those who supported the arrangement, while Senator Ali Ndume also backed the adoption of the final consensus list.

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who delivered the vote of thanks, commended party leaders and delegates for the peaceful conduct of the congress. He urged members to remain committed to the party’s vision and to sustain collaboration to consolidate its gains at both state and national levels.

The outgoing National Vice-Chairman of the APC for the North-East, Mustapha Salihu, expressed appreciation to governors and party stakeholders for the support received during his tenure, assuring that he and his team would continue to work for the party’s success.

In a statement issued after the congress, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya congratulated the newly elected zonal officers and urged them to prioritise unity, inclusiveness and strategic coordination. He said the APC in the northeast must remain cohesive to sustain its dominance and deliver on the Renewed Hope agenda.

Mr Inuwa Yahaya gave special commendation to the new Zonal Publicity Secretary, Nitte Amangal, and the Zonal Women Leader, Lumbi Abubakar, describing them as experienced party loyalists capable of delivering in their new roles.

Kebbi APC Youths Knock ADC, Say Opposition ‘Pushing a Damaged Candidate

By Musa Garba

The Kebbi APC Youth Vanguard (KAYV) has criticised the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) over its recent political stance, describing the opposition’s claims as unrealistic and misleading.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, Comrade Adamu Ahmed, the group reacted to remarks made by the ADC during its reception for former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, following his return from detention.

The ADC had, during the event, expressed strong confidence in its ability to unseat the incumbent governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, citing what it called lapses in governance.

However, KAYV dismissed the assertion, accusing the opposition of attempting to market what it termed a “damaged political product” to the people of Kebbi State.

Ahmed argued that lingering allegations associated with Malami have already shaped public perception, making it difficult for any credible political platform to present him as a viable alternative.

According to him, the ADC’s position reflects a disconnect from the realities on ground, insisting that the ruling administration still enjoys widespread support among residents.

“The opposition appears out of touch with the political climate in Kebbi. Rather than offering practical solutions, they are relying on rhetoric and recycled political figures,” he said.

The group urged opposition parties in the state to focus on presenting credible candidates and policy-driven alternatives capable of convincing voters, instead of what it described as sensational claims.

APC Chairman Urges Peaceful Celebrations, Calls for Reflection During Lent, Ramadan

By Ben Ngwakwe, Gombe

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, Hon. Mohammed Dantata Ndus, has called on adherents of major religions in the state to embrace peaceful and prayerful celebrations as the Christian Lenten season coincides with the Muslim fasting period of Ramadan.

Ndus made the appeal on Monday while speaking with journalists in his office in Gombe.

He urged residents to use the sacred period for sober reflection, stressing the importance of religious tolerance, unity, and compassion among the people.

The APC chairman also congratulated the Muslim Ummah for successful observance of the Ramadan fast and extended goodwill to Christians observing the Lenten season, noting that both periods emphasise spiritual renewal, sacrifice, and acts of charity.

According to him, the season should encourage individuals to demonstrate love, support the needy and vulnerable, and strengthen bonds within communities.

Ndus further called on aspirants and party members preparing for the forthcoming primaries of the All Progressives Congress to conduct themselves with decorum and adhere to the principles of internal democracy.

He also urged citizens to pray for the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, as well as for the leadership of the APC and the progress of Nigeria.

The chairman expressed optimism that with collective prayers and responsible conduct by political actors and citizens alike, the state and the nation would continue to experience peace, stability, and development.

The political landscape in Gombe State witnessed a significant shift as Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya received Hon. Inuwa Garba, the lawmaker representing Yamaltu-Deba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, following his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon. Garba paid a courtesy visit to the governor to formally announce his move and presented his APC membership card, which he obtained from his ward in Lubo, Yamaltu-Deba Local Government Area, affirming his full return to the ruling party.

Speaking during the meeting, the federal lawmaker attributed his defection to what he described as the visionary leadership and impressive developmental strides of Governor Inuwa Yahaya across Gombe State. He also expressed confidence in the reform-driven agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the APC provides a stronger and more reliable platform for sustainable national growth.

According to him, the party’s governance philosophy aligns with his commitment to effective representation and grassroots development.

“The APC remains the beacon of progressive governance in Nigeria. With the leadership of Governor Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level, I am confident that our people will continue to witness tangible development and inclusive policies,” he said.

Hon. Garba pledged his loyalty to the APC and assured the governor of his readiness to work for the unity and advancement of the party in Yamaltu-Deba and beyond.

In his remarks, Governor Inuwa Yahaya warmly welcomed the lawmaker, describing his decision as bold and reflective of his dedication to the welfare of his constituents. He said the defection signals growing public trust in the APC’s governance model in the state.

The governor emphasised that his administration remains focused on delivering people-orientated projects, strengthening infrastructure, expanding opportunities in education and healthcare, and driving economic diversification for long-term prosperity.
