Halima Abubakar Files N30bn Defamation Lawsuit Against AGN President Emeka Rollas
Suspended Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has filed a N30 billion lawsuit against Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), following his announcement of her suspension on social media.
Abubakar, suspended over alleged defamation of Nollywood, claimed she was never informed or given a chance to respond before the suspension was made public. In a letter dated October 20, 2024, Abubakar’s legal team, P.D. Pius & Associates, accused Rollas of intentionally damaging her reputation.
“Our client has been dealing with significant health issues, and despite a professional relationship, you chose this sensitive period to spread a false narrative, causing her emotional distress and harm to her public image,” the letter stated.
The solicitors demanded the immediate removal of the suspension announcement from Rollas’ Instagram account, along with a public apology and N30 billion in damages. They also issued a warning: “If these demands are not met within 7 days, we are instructed by our client to pursue legal action.”
