Nigerian Army Troops Clear Yadi Forest of Terrorists, Recover Arms and Equipment

In a decisive operation on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, troops of the Nigerian Army successfully conducted deep clearance operations in Yadi Forest located in Kaduna State, leading to the expulsion of terrorists who had been hiding in the remote forest area. The operation resulted in a significant blow to the terrorist activities within the forest.
In a statement Wednesday, Director of Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu said, during the operation, the troops faced an ambush orchestrated by the terrorists. However, they quickly retaliated with a heavy volume of fire, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist while the others fled in disarray.

“The gallant troops made a significant recovery of arms, ammunition, and various equipment from the terrorists. The items confiscated included 2 AK-47 rifles, 6 AK-47 magazines, 5 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 331 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 PKT machine gun ammunition, and 2 PKT machine gun ammunition links.
“Additionally, the troops seized 3 motorbikes, 2 power generating sets, 2 sets of desert camouflage clothing, leg and hand chains used for restraining kidnap victims, 9 Baofeng radios with chargers, a talisman vest, an international passport, 2 voter’s cards, 2 national identity cards, among other items.
“The terrorists’ camps, which were carefully hidden along the river lines, were destroyed by the troops as part of the operation. Efforts are ongoing as the troops continue to pursue the fleeing terrorists with the aim of completely eradicating terrorist activities within the forest and restoring peace and stability in the region.” Nwachukwu adds.
The Army further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies as part of the collective effort to combat terrorism in the country. The successful operation in Yadi Forest is a testament to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens while tackling threats posed by terrorist groups.
