Nigerian Officer Cadet Makes History at UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
In a groundbreaking moment at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom, Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu has etched her name in history as the first-ever Nigerian female officer to graduate from the esteemed institution.
The 24-year-old trailblazer joined 134 other Officer Cadets in a momentous ceremony known as the Sovereign’s Parade today, held in London, UK. The event marked a significant milestone not only for Oluchukwu but also for Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Princess Oluchukwu’s journey to this historic achievement began in 2018 when she enrolled at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Over the years, she demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership, earning the respect and admiration of her peers and superiors.
Her progression through the ranks at the NDA was nothing short of impressive. Starting as a Cadet Lance Corporal in her second year, she steadily climbed the ranks, attaining the position of Cadet Sergeant in her fourth year. In a remarkable display of leadership and proficiency, she was appointed as the Company Senior Under Officer Charlie (CSUO C) in her fifth year at the academy.
Today’s graduation ceremony at RMAS not only signifies the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance for Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring young women in Nigeria and beyond. Her achievement paves the way for more women to break barriers and excel in traditionally male-dominated fields such as the military.
