At least seven Boko Haram repentant terrorists have surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Damasak of Mobbar local council of Borno state.
The surrendered terrorists laid down a cache of arms, comprising two Rapid Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, four RPG bombs, an AK-47 rifle, a German machine gun, and 791 rounds of ammunition.
Other recovered items from the repentant terrorists included 12 mobile handsets, six solar panels, and four knives.
The MNJTF Chief Military Information Officer, Lt-Col. Olaniyi Osobain, said in a statement released on Thursday in Maiduguri, “The seven terrorists voluntarily surrendered to our troops during their sustained offensive operations at Walada village in the Mobbar local council area.”
He noted that the terrorists’ laying down of arms is a testament to the effectiveness of the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Lake Chad region.
He further disclosed that the repentant terrorists, comprising Baba Ibrahim (19), Bamai Ali (20), Jundu Ali (19), Abba Ali (25), Abubakar Mohammed (20), Tijjani Ali (20), and Ali Mohammed (25), confessed to their involvement in terrorists’ activities in the northern parts of the state.
Osoba noted that the surrendered terrorists initially feared that, if they surrendered to troops, they would be killed in the front lines of Lake Chad Basin.
“They are currently providing us with credible intelligence to the military,” he said.
“This will further sustain the counter-terrorism operations in the region, comprising Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon.
He, therefore, encouraged other terrorists in the region and Sambisa Forest to take the opportunity of surrendering to the army.
