World Radiography Day: ARGN insists on accurate diagnosis of disease before treatments

The Yobe State chapter of the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARGN) has insisted on the accurate diagnosis of various diseases to enhance their treatments in hospitals and healthcare delivery centers in the state.
The call for accurate diagnosis of diseases was made over the weekend (Saturday) in Damaturu by the Head of Radiology, Dr. Ishaku Mua’zu of the Specialist Hospital, Potiskum.
He said this year’s theme, “Promoting the profession of radiography,” was to highlight the crucial role radiographers play in delivering accurate diagnosis of various diseases in the communities.
Additionally, he said, “We are marking Radiographers Day to promote it’s importance to members of society at the state and council levels,” said Mua’zu.
A consultant and chief radiographer of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Dr. Ibrahim Nanba, urged stakeholders and other philanthropists to support the government’s efforts by providing more radiography equipment.
He noted that the populations of towns and villages have increased by over 50 percent in the last decade, particularly Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru, and Damaturu, the state capital.
Besides supporting governments with radiography equipment, the consultant urged parents to encourage their children and wards to study radiography in universities.
He said this will ensure the profession’s potential in an efficient healthcare delivery service to the people.
“Today’s anniversary marks the promotion of radiography as an important contribution to modern healthcare delivery services,” he said, noting that it will also raise awareness of diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy among patients.
